The board of directors would like to announce that Feminists for Life of New York is now, Feminists Choosing Life of New York.
Earlier this year, Andrea Robb Milanowski, of Lucas Films, President of the Feminists for Life of America board of directors, communicated with FFLNY that their board was dissolving chapter relations with New York, its last remaining state chapter, in order to streamline its operations to more narrowly focus on eliminating the root causes that drive women to seek abortions. As a result of this involuntary dissolution from the national organization, Feminists for Life of New York is now Feminists Choosing Life of New York
As Feminists Choosing Life of New York, our mission will continue to be the same as it was as FFLNY. We believe that maintaining our broader mission, which addresses the root causes of abortion within the framework of a consistent life ethic, lends the strength of integrity to that mission and allows us to network with a diverse number of organizations including New York State anti-domestic violence coalitions, the New York Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, justice and peace committees at the county and city levels, etc. This is a central strategy FCLNY employs in our efforts to move the public towards a pro-life/pro-woman philosophy. A narrower mission does not lend itself to this important networking capability.
Although the FFLNY dissolution from Feminists for Life of America was unexpected, the board of directors believes this new beginning signifies our complete coming of age as “the” pro-life/pro-woman organization in New York. Feminists Choosing Life knows our towns, our counties and our elected officials. We understand our state policies and our state’s legislation. We understand the hurdles before us and have been a part of the pro-life successes of the past. FCLNY has and will continue to work with you, our long-time friends and neighbors to make an impact on the conditions for women and children, born and unborn, in New York State.
In addition to our on-going pro-life/pro-woman efforts in New York State, FCLNY will continue to partner with Feminists for Life of America in select overlapping activities such as pregnancy forums and campus outreach programs.
The Board of Feminists Choosing Life of New York hopes you will be as excited about this new beginning as we are. Your present membership in Feminists for Life of New York will automatically roll over to Feminists Choosing Life of New York. When your current membership expires, FCLNY will contact you for continued support of our state based efforts. We hope you will consider maintaining a membership with both FCLNY and FFLA.
